Since moving out of my parent’s home at age fifteen, I haven’t been able to spend much time with my sister. Between finishing school, becoming an adult, family drama, and many, many kilometers, there wasn’t much room for sisterly bonding. Now that I’m done school, I’ve grown to embrace being an adult, I’ve eliminated family drama, and I’ve got a car, there’s a little more room for sisterly bonding.
However, I found that we don’t have as many common interests or similar skills as we used to when we were young. She has a free spirit with a passion for adventure. I have a reserved spirit with a passion for creative things. She loves to party with friends and attend unique events. I like to stay home with my husband and take a few photographs.
Even though we are complete opposites by personality, we manage to enjoy each others company just as much as we did when we were young. She invites me into her world by taking me out with her friends and showing me a good time. I invite her into my world by slumbering in our pajamas, painting our nails, and talking about life.
There is one thing, however, that we have found in common. We both like to find new ways to stay healthy, although, she is much better at it than I. I could only dream of having her will power. She finds new foods and recipes and recommends me to try them. She send me motivating texts to hit the gym. When get together we workout together and talk about our gym habits.
The first weekend of fall we tried something new and fell in love. We went hiking at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton, Ontario. We fell in love with the fresh air, the beautiful scenery, and the climb. Of course, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to take a few photos (okay I took a ton). I brought my digital SLR camera with me as we climbed the Niagara escarpment.
It took just one trip to fall in love with Mother Nature. We’ve decided that this will be our thing. Hiking, exploring, adventuring. We vowed to each other to try new things over the winter like snowboarding and snowshoeing and continue our hiking adventures into next summer. We even want to give canoeing and rock climbing a try.
Here are a few photos from our first hiking adventure. Enjoy!
P.S. If you know of any great hiking areas that my sister and I should try this year or next, please, tell me!
