I rarely watch television anymore. I used to be faithful to 4 channels:
The odd time, if there’s nothing good on these channels, I might watch:
Television is Disapointing
Lately, there hasn’t been anything good on TV. Literally nothing. If you watch any of these channels, you’ll probably agree with me.
TLC is nothing but bridal shows: Say Yes to the Dress, Bride by Design, My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding, 90 Day Fiance, Four Weddings, and the list goes on and on and on. Now that I’m married, they aren’t as heart wrenching. Quite frankly, it gets pretty annoying when bridal shows are the only thing ever on TLC.
HGTV is always house hunters in some part of the world or home improvements of all areas of the home.
MTV & W Network
It’s the same shit over and over. Am I right or am I right?
When something good comes along…
The odd time there’s actually good a show like The Little Couple on TLC or Nightwatch on A&E but they only last a few weeks and then they’re done. By the time I realize the show exists, it’s season is over.
Streaming is the Future
So, in order to avoid continued disappointment from television networks, I stick to Netflix.
Some say that there’s nothing to watch on Netflix (Canada). While it’s true that there are a lot of terrible movies on Netflix, there are also many great movies and television shows as well. It’s just a matter of digging for them.
I’m here to help. I’ve had Netflix since October 8, 2011, so I’ve got a bit of experience under my belt.
First of all, I want to share some tips for getting the most out of Netflix:
- Use your List
When your browsing through to find a show or movie to watch and you come across something that sounds good, add it to your list. Do the same when you think of a show that a family or friend has recommended you to check out. This way, if you’re ever stuck for something to watch and don’t feel like browsing through all the reviews and movie descriptions, you can open up your list and choose from there.
Don’t forget to remove movies and shows from your list once you’ve finished watching them. Otherwise, it gets pretty cluttered in there.
- Popular demand categories
Popular on Netflix and Popular on Facebook are worth checking out because it shows movies and shows that are popular among other Netflix watchers. If it’s popular, it’s usually good.
- Customized categories
Because you watched… are always great categories to check out because they’re customized based on shows and movies you’ve previously watched. There’s often hidden treasures in these.
- New to Netflix
Make note that the recently added and new releases are two totally different categories. The recently added aren’t necessarily recently produced movies. There might even be a 1950’s classic movie in here.
On the contrary, the new releases category does consist of all the recently produced movies and shows. Keep your eye out for this category.
- What you see is not what you get
Keep in mind that Netflix doesn’t always display all the movies and shows available on its carousel of category browsing feature. They’re constantly updating what titles to suggest to you based on shows you’ve previously watched. This is why it’s important to ensure other users create their own profile under your account instead of using your profile to watch shows. If you’re looking for a certain title and can’t find it, try the search function.
- Share your account
Netflix is so cheap. But often times people don’t want to go through the hassle of setting up an account. Give your username and password to a few people that you trust. But, like I said, ask them to create their own profiles so it doesn’t mess up your title recommendations. You can have up to 5 profiles linked to your account without paying extra.
Netflix Recommendations for your Next Binge
I asked my Facebook friends for their advice on what to watch next on Netflix and they came up with a healthy list. So you (and I) can always find it in the future when you’re feeling like a Netflix binge or watching something new, here’s the post.
Have suggestions for me? Shoot me them in the comments!
I’m even going to go one step further.
I’m going to compile a list of shows and movies that I’ve watched and possibly write my own reviews and recommendations on each title. So, bookmark this post and come back to check for recent reviews. I watch Netflix every day so this is bound to turn into a large compilation.
